Autoflow
The Autoflow filtration system was developed some 30 years ago and initially for drip irrigation systems. The use was then extended to small town water supply. The Autoflow filtration system consists of a rotary multiport valve, made from machined zinc free bronze, mounted on or adjacent to a system of multiple high rate sand filter cells. The system is used with either four, six or eight cells. Uniquely, the Autoflow system employs filtered water for backwashing each cell thus guaranteeing the life of the underdrains, and can be manually operated or motorized with microprocessor control. Electronic control and remote telemetry is a continuing focus of development.
The system then utilised reinforced concrete for the construction of the cells. This has proved to be a great success – with installation of 10 such systems across Australia. The concrete cells have so far always been integrated with the balance tank and backwash holding tank. The first such installation has been in operation for over 20 years and will confidently survive another fifty four years as have gravity filter systems.
